Which one is more important–a husband or a boyfriend?
It seems like a silly question with an obvious answer but it’s a question I once asked myself some time ago. My thoughts were so consumed with being in a relationship with a particular person. In my mind, the sooner he was my boyfriend, the closer I’d be to marriage. Crazy, right? YES, because as a result, I ended up prolonging a relationship that was never destined for forever.
Have you ever been in a similar situation when all you wanted was to be someone’s number 1 or their only one? It’s a crazy, mixed-up, ugly, desperate place to be because it means that you’ve settled.
Maybe you’re still in that place right now, or perhaps you’re just unhappily single right now.
Sometimes, we just need to do a deep heart-check and address those feelings of impatience and anxiety. Furthermore, we need to check the spirit of complacency that’s at work in us because it’s nudging us to desire a temporary thing (boyfriend) over the lasting gift of marriage (a husband). Our sights should never be fixed on things lower than the blessings of God.
Today, my prayer is for us to release our worries and concerns regarding the timing of marriage–it will come at the right time. Our worrying, planning and scheming will not make it arrive a moment sooner. I pray that we lay aside the attitudes of settling and complacency; and that we instead run our race as single women with purpose and patience. The reward on the other side of patience is far more valuable than anything we could ever conceive on our own.
Prayer: Dear God, I pray that you attend to our hearts. Give our hearts rest and peace. Bring us joy as we wait for you to unveil the fulfillment of your promises. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
“Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill his promises to her!”
