A Lesson on Fishing…

A Lesson on Fishing

When you do things that are successful people will begin to phish for information (fish) however God said it takes him to make a fisher of men (Matthew 4:19).  The difference between a self-made fisherman and a God-made fisherman is skill.

Two men can go fishing and bring back a catch but only one possesses the skill to make the catch last.

Be mindful of the company of you keep and the fishers that are near you.  Some are there to extend a line (helping hand).  Some are there to learn from you, and others are there to extend themselves into your line.  They want to see how you catch what you catch.  They want to observe your skill and use it to compete with you.

Exercise wisdom and discernment in the area of your gifts, and listen for the voice of God to give you wisdom and instruction regarding the company you keep.  Lastly, pray for the impostor fishermen.  Pray that they will one day grow into the area of their gift, and learn to fish for themselves and bless others.

A great way to stay guarded with wisdom and discernment is to devote the first few minutes of your day to God.  Begin each day with a prayer and a few moments with God.  Those few moments carry enough power to equip you with knowledge that will last for a lifetime.

“Happy is the man who finds wisdom,
And the man who gains understanding;
For her proceeds are better than the profits of silver,
And her gain than fine gold.
She is more precious than rubies,
And all the things you may desire cannot compare with her.
Length of days is in her right hand,
In her left hand riches and honor.”

(Proverbs 3:13-16)

    Because God knows there are those who fish not because it’s their calling but rather for the purpose of competing like Cain did to Abel, regarding the sacrifices they both rendered to God. whatever our gifts, when we open up and use those gifts selflessly God accepts and receives our offerings like he did with Abel’s offering and blesses us. We also need to remember there are people like Cain who don’t utilize their skills and gifts given by God and plan on using others fishing lines in spite. God tells us to seek and ask him for wisdom freely Proverbs 24: 3 “Through wisdom a house is built,And by understanding it is established;4 By knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches.5 A wise man is strong,Yes, a man of knowledge increases strength
    ;6 For by wise counsel you will wage your own war,And in a multitude of counselors there is safety”.God gives freely and as we uncover our gifts, he also encourages us to walk in the counsel of saved believers so they can encourage and help us use our gifts wisely. Thank you Erika for this wonderful message!!!
