How Will You Survive?

During a recent fast, I struggled with giving up tea.  It’s so soothing and since I don’t drink coffee, it’s my warm drink of choice.  When I decided to fast, I didn’t realize that I would be required to give up tea so it was quite an adjustment for me and my body.  I never knew that a person could experience caffeine withdrawal from green tea but I discovered this very quickly.  I felt tired and weak, and I struggled with caffeine withdrawal headaches.  By day 3 of the fast, I was beyond uncomfortable and I wanted the pain to cease immediately.  However, just as I began to ponder how I would ever survive one month without tea, I felt a nudge in my spirit say “how will you survive without me?”

Whatever we desire, whatever we aspire to do, whatever we want to achieve…must include Jesus.  The world can give us many things, but only one person can give us life to experience those things.

Today, my encouragement to each of us is a short declaration:  “In all that I do and aspire to achieve, I will remember that nothing in the world matters if I don’t first have you.  Nothing in this world is meaningful if it doesn’t include you.  I know that I cannot survive if I don’t have you. You are my God; I will live to honor you.”

Reflection: Are there areas of my life that I could make an effort to include God in?  Are there decisions in my life that need God’s presence today?

Prayer:  God, come into my life and lead me in the direction where you desire for me to go.  I abandon my will so that your will can be perfected in my life. Show me how to rely on you for everything that my heart desires.

Scripture: “Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing” (John 15:5) (New Living Translation).

Be encouraged!

Mark 8:36 “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul”? A great poem that is inspiring/ encouraging me to trust God is “The Dash”by Linda Ellis. The highlight of the poem is our beginning which is our birth and our end which is our death. In between the two is the DASH which we fill in ourselves. I am learning that life is difficult to make meaning out of on our own. It is can only make sense when we allow God guide us fill in the DASH. With obedience to his word and direction from God we can survive all the how’s with He will, because he has promised us and he declares it in Jeremiah 29:11. We have choices in life and with all the choices, if we choose to go with God’s first he will guide us fill in the dashes so they make sense!!!

Thanks so much for sharing this poem! I just read it and I absolutely love it! And yes! That’s the perfect scripture for this post! Nothing we gain in life matters, if we don’t have Jesus 🙂

Drop me a line!
